Seller: cockleheart (2,762) 100%, Location: Sowerby Bridge, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 382634858855 Early 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Elisabeth Crawfany - 1838. This sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the linen are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the lower section is stitched with a row of family initials and the date of Nov 4 1838 with a crown motif to finish. Elisabeth's name is stitched below with a pair of open tailed peacocks and a bird beneath. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places, and the colours of the wool are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. There is also a small area of old restoration to the border pattern beneath the numbers 12, 13 and 14 in the lower right quadrant. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Elisabeth first stitched it. This photograph also shows the area of restoration which is worked in a brighter shade of green.Measures 7 1/2" x 16" ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK. ALSO PLEASE CHECK OUT THE OTHER SAMPLERS I'M SELLING.
